If killing the undead in a Russian oven heated by fire’s breath sounds appealing, you might give this DLC some consideration. That said, Gorod Krovi has proven a surprising high point in this year’s Zombies campaign. I’m not sure many of these new maps will prove much of a draw to any but the most hardcore of Black Ops III ‘s veteran players. I died more than once attempting to navigate them as enemies on the platforms below took potshots at me. This map, more than any of the others, is best designed for fans of Black Ops III ‘s jetpack antics, with platforms that can only be reached with skillful jumps and cylindrical tanks with vertical curved surfaces that demand precision movement. It’s a platform in the centre of the Dead Sea, which in the game’s version of the future has apparently dried up, leaving a hardened and cracked floor far below littered with the hulking wrecks of watercraft. Since those are my two favourite game types, this is the map I’ve found myself voting for most often.Ĭryogen, meanwhile, is set within a detention facility designed to hold criminals in suspended animation. I found it an especially good fit for Uplink – there are fun places to run and carry the satellite drone as well as strategic places to defend the uplink station – and Kill Confirmed matches.
It has good sight lines to encourage medium and long range firefights, a couple of sheer wooden surfaces in the middle suitable for wall running (a smart way to quickly switch between the left and right lanes), and some subtle but effective changes in elevation. Alas, they’re virtually all blocked by invisible walls. It’s covered in low terraces and rooftops that look and feel as though they ought to be accessible with a boost jump.
